A used set of Pirelli tires and magnesium OZ wheels sit in the paddock. The Italian tire manufacturer has been a staple of Grand Prix racing and innovation, beginning in 1951 with the first wrap-around radial tire structure in the Cinturato. The company began manufacturing slick racing tires in 1971, using synthetic compounds instead of the traditional, natural rubber. Today's tires contain layers of interwoven composite materials and multiple compounds built to withstand up to one tonne of downforce, and loads of up to 5gs.
